Can anyone back that up, was 9/7/73 the first time Jerry played Wolf onstage? I've always had an interest but never a concrete knowledge of what he played and when. I guess he used Alligator up until September 73? I'd have thought Wolf came earlier. I know I've seen websites that detail this information, but I'll be damned if I remember the specifics.

Pretty good breakdown of the month. I've always been fond of 9/15, and 9/26 has some nice stuff. I'd also point out the Nobody's Fault but Mine from the 24th I think it is. I believe that's the first full version with lyrics in years?

Here's a competent summary of Garcia's guitar timelines over the years. Garcia was known for mixing things up from time to time.

This may be the best available information regarding Garcia's first performance with the "Wolf". I didn't see and hear the Wolf live until 11/01/73.

If you listen closely from show-to-show you'll hear the sound and be able to identify a Gibson from a Fender and a custom build.

No Koch. Stop lying to the good folks here. You never saw or heard Garcia play The Wolf.

Jerry was playing the "Rosebud" or "Lightning Bolt" when you attended your first show...

Ah, thanks, that's the link about Jerry's gear that I used to have. I lost all my bookmarks like a year ago in a foolish computer accident.

And yeah, I mean I can tell the difference between Jerry's more obvious guitar changeups, but I guess I just never thought his tone sounded much different in the Fall of 73 than it did in the Summer. Or maybe I just don't listen to as much GD as I used to. The initial thrill of the internet was great, it was fun having a mission of collecting every show from every year (up to about 80 or 81, anyway), but now I'm just sorta depressed that there aren't any more surprises, aside from ones I hear in old favorites that I listen to with different ears. Maybe Lemiuex'll find a big old box of reels from Summer '68 someday. I doubt it, but we need to have hope and faith in somethin'...
